In order to further implement the relevant work of supporting the construction of Chengdu Science City in Western China, and accelerate the planning of large-scale equipment and large platforms, President Yanrong Li led a team to conduct investigation and research from July 1 to 2 at Shanghai Advanced Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Science and the University of Science and Technology of China, focusing on the development and operation mechanism of national laboratories and large-scale scientific facilities. Vice President Liangyin Chu, and the leaders of the SCU’s Office of Scientific Research and Development, the Development and Planning Division and the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Physics went along.
On the morning of July 1, Yanrong Li and his entourage came to Shanghai Zhangjiang Laboratory to visit the National Facility for Protein Science in Shanghai, Shanghai Superintense Ultrafast Laser Facility andShanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility, and exchanged ideas with relevant laboratory leaders on the organizational structure, laboratory management and operation mechanism.
On the morning of July 2, Yanrong Li and his party came to the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) to visit the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory and met with Gequn Shu, Secretary of the Party Committee of the University and President Xinhe Bao.
Fang Huang, director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development, USTC, briefly introduced the basic situation of the University of Science and Technology of China at the forum. The two sides discussed in depth the construction, operation and management of national research centers and large-scale scientific facilities.
During the investigation, President Li pointed out that the experience and practice learned during the visit are eye-opening and instructive for the science and technology innovation center which is under construction in Sichuan University and the Chengdu-Chongqing region. Through this investigation, we should learn from good methods, think outside the box, tie the development of SCU in with the construction of Chengdu Science City in Western China, and accelerate the construction of large-scale facilities and large platforms through various channels and ways.
