Sichuan University Ranks No. 8 Among Mainland Chinese Universities According to ARWU

The 2018 Shanghai Ranking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was released on August 15.This ranking presents the top 500 research universities in the world. 51 mainland Chinese universities have made it to the list with Sichuan University in the 189thrank, a progress by 6 places.Of all the mainland Chinese universities on the list, Sichuan University shares the eighth rank for the second time in a row.

Being first published in 2003, Shanghai Ranking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities, which is abbreviated to ARWU, is the first comprehensive ranking system of world universities. This year is the sixteenth edition. In addition to ranking universitiesbased upon six academic quotas, this ranking system publishes specific scores in each of the six areas: Alumni, Award, HiCi, N & S,PUB (SCIE andSSCI) and PCP. Being reported and quoted extensively worldwide, this ranking system is one of the most influential and authoritative rankings of world universities.Many governments and universities will utilize this ranking to analyze and compare their own situations in an attempt to find ways to boost the competitive edge of their universities.

Over the past three years, Sichuan University has performed well according to ARWU, seeing a steady progress in terms of both SCIEand SSCI.
