The Sanxingdui and Ancient Civilization Research Institute (SACRI) got launched and an academic symposium was held at the International Academic Exchange Center on October 27th. Gan Lin, chairman of the university council, and Wang Yi, director of the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, attended the launching ceremony and unveiled the plaque for the research institute. Gong Changwei, president of China pre-Qin History Society (CHS),Tang Fei,directorof the Sichuan Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, Deng Cong, a distinguished professor of the Shandong University Institute of Cultural Heritage, Yao Leye, vice president of SCU, Distinguished Professor Huo Wei, Peng Bangben, director of the Sanxingdui and Ancient Civilization Research Institute of SCU, among others, participated in the above activities.
Gan Lin and Wang Yi unveiled the plague for the Sanxingdui and Ancient Civilization Research Institute.
Yao Leye expressed, in his speech, gratitude to the attending leaders and experts on behalf of the university and extended gratitude to everyone for their long-term care and support for the construction and development of Sichuan University.
He stated that the establishment of the SACRI is a specific measure to put into effect Xi Jinping’s cultural thought so as to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese culture. The newly established Sanxingdui and Ancient Civilization Research Institute should, on the basis of inheriting previous research achievements, stand by the Great Civilization Historical View, strengthen the collection, organization, and utilization of data, vigorously innovate research methods, and promote the research of Sanxingdui and Chinese civilization.
Wang Yi noted in his speech that the new round of archaeological work at Sanxingdui is a typical case of cooperative research and multidisciplinary investigation involving more than 40 units, including Sichuan Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and Sichuan University. Generations of archaeologists from Sichuan University have made important contributions to the excavation and research of the Sanxingdui Archaeological Site. I hope that Sichuan University's Sanxingdui and Ancient Civilization Research Institute can further consolidate internal and external resources, and make greater contributions to the Sanxingdui research.
At the symposium, Prof. Peng Bangben reported on the development ideas for the research institute. Gong Changwei, Tang Fei, and Deng Cong respectively gave special reports on "Promoting the Study of Sanxingdui from the Perspective of Interdisciplinary Integration of History and Archaeology", "Resource Sharing and New Trends in Sanxingdui Research", and "Promoting Sanxingdui Research from the Perspective of International Cooperation". The attending experts and scholars exchanged and discussed ideas from multiple perspectives, including the changes of mountains, rivers, and human civilization, the progress of metallurgical technology and world cultural development, the history of animal and plant domestication and human development.
