Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha Visited Sichuan University

Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha and his delegation visited Sichuan University on June 30th. The university Party Secretary Gan Lin met with guests in the VIP Hall of Mingde building on Wangjiang campus.Joint Secretary Lok Bahadur Thapa from the Foreign Ministry, Joint Secretary Rudradevi Sharma from the Home Ministry, Joint Secretary Mahesh Baral from the Industries Ministry; Executive Vice President Xu Weilin, Vice President Yao Leye of SCU, Pang Guanglong, a second-level inspector of Sichuan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, and relevant unit leaders attended the meeting.

Gan Lin, on behalf of the school, welcomed Mr. Shrestha and his delegation.

He pointed out that China and Nepal are connected by mountains and rivers, and have been on friendly terms for generations. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, traditional friendship and friendly cooperation between China and Nepal have continuously developed. Sichuan University is a high-level research-oriented comprehensive university located in the west of China, and an important position for research on South Asia, and Nepal in particular. He also hoped that the two sides would intensify cooperation in clean energy, biodiversity, cultural exchanges, making greater contributions to the high-quality joint construction of the "One Belt and One Road".

Shrestha expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the university. He said that China is not only a good neighbor and friend of Nepal, but also a major development partner of Nepal. At present, the two countries are making efforts to jointly build a cross Himalayan three-dimensional connectivity network under the "the Belt and Road" initiative. Sichuan University is a "double first-class" university in China. He hoped that both sides would further strengthen cooperation in talent training, Energy development, health care and other aspects, and promote the development of a closer community of shared future between China and Nepal.

After the meeting, Shrestha met with SCU students, shared his views on deepening China Nepal cooperation and building a community of common destiny. Then, he visited the State Key Laboratory of Hydraulics and MountainRiver Engineering.
