On February 18, SCU held the fourth Teachers' Congress/the sixth meeting of the third Workers' Congress and the 2022 work plan meeting on Wangjiang campus. Nearly 800 people attended the meeting. They included Chairman Wang Jianguo of the university council, President Li Yanrong, former leaders Han Bangyan, Lu Tiecheng and Lin Libin, newly resigned leaders of the university, academicians Gao Jie, Shi Bi, Wang Yuzhong and Wang Qi, distinguished professors Cao Shunqing, Zhong Benhe and Huo Wei, members of the "two committees" of the university, deputies to people's congresses and CPPCC members at or above the municipal level, official representatives and so forth. There was one main venue and three sub venues. SCU’s executive vice president Xu Weilin presided over the meeting.
President Li made the university work report. In the report, he briefly reviewed the main work progress of the university in 2021, explained the “double first-class" development plan for the new phase, and made comprehensive arrangements for the key work in 2022.
He said that 2021 is a year of deep integration of Party building and cause development. In phase I of national "double first-class" development effectiveness evaluation, the university ranks among the first tier, which indicates a high-level start in the 14th “five-year plan” period.Speaking of the new round "double first-class" development at the university, he pointed out that the main goal of the new phase is that by 2025, the overall strength of the university will rank among the best in domestic universities; a number of disciplines will enter the world-class ranks; advantageous disciplines will be at the international forefront, and explore a new road to create a world-class university in Western China. By 2035, the university’s main school running indicators and overall strength will reach the level of world-class universities, and the university will develop into a world-class university with Chinese features and the style of Sichuan University. The specific intention is to comprehensively promote the prosperity and development of humanities and social sciences and significantly improve the original innovation ability of sciences in the new phase of development. In addition, the university will promote engineering disciplines to a new level with the new engineering being the leader. West China Medicine takes the lead in entering the world-class ranks, and the university strives to raise the core competitiveness of various disciplines to a new level. In order to achieve this goal, the university will fully implement the "5 + 14 + X" discipline development plan, build 14 first-class disciplines (groups) under the guidance of the five pilot projects, and strive to build X interdisciplinary platforms with advanced deployment.
In his speech, Chairman Wang Jianguo thanked the staff for their hard work, comprehensively analyzed the new development situation SCU faced under the background of "two overall situations", and emphasized the key work in 2022.
He pointed out that the whole university should focus on the following work. First, we should adhere to the party's overall leadership over the university work. Second, we should accelerate the "double first-class" development of the new phase and promote the connotative high-quality development of the university. Third, we should further deepen the reform of system and mechanism and continuously improve modern governance. Fourth, we should continue to promote the practice of "I do practical things for the masses", and work hard and earnestly to solve tough problems for teachers and students. Fifth, we should coordinate development and security, and do a good job in the university development, epidemic prevention and control, and security and stability.
Before the meeting, the university also held a preparatory meeting for the "two congresses". Vice President Li Rongjun introduced the adoption of the theme and topics of the "two congresses" and explained the preparations for the "two congresses". The primary leader of the Finance Department explained the drafting of the financial work report of the university in 2021, and commended the outstanding proposals of delegates and advanced work units in handling those proposals in the year 2020-2021.
All delegations held a group discussion afterwards. Everyone agreed that the year 2021 saw a good start of the university work, and the university achieved a success in Party building and cause development, laying a solid foundation for the development of the 14th five-year plan and the "double first-class" mission in the upcoming phase.
