On September 29, the Sichuan University 125th Anniversary High Quality Development Conference was grandly held in the university's International Academic Exchange Center. President Li Yanrong, and other leaders of the university, Deng Xiaogang, academician of CAS from the Academy of Military Sciences, He Kebin, academician of CAE from Tsinghua University, Meng Daqiao, academician of CAS from the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics, Zhao Zhentang, academician of CAE, the first-class Professor Wang Bangwei of Peking University, SCU’s six CAS and CAE academician including Gao Jie, Zhang Xingdong, Wang Qi and others attended the conference. Also present at the conference were more than 100 well-known experts and scholars, including distinguished professors of You Zhisheng, Cao Shunqing, Zhong Benhe, Zhan Shichuang and Huo Wei, former leaders of the university, representatives of teachers and students and alumni. The conference was presided over by executive vice president Xu Weilin.
At the conference, President Li Yanrong delivered a keynote speech "Serving national major strategies and developing a world-class university". He pointed out that over the past 125 years, Sichuan University has always upheld patriotism and loyalty to family and country, remaining truthful to the original mission of educating people and cultivating talent. 125 years is not only a milestone in the development history of Sichuan University, but also a new starting point. He stressed that the university should raise its standards for talent training in order to promote high quality development. SCU should adhere to the fundamental task of developing students into talent with morality, establish an indomitable concept of talent training, and strive to build an excellent education system centered on students' growth and the pattern of involving all staff, all the way and all aspects. It should continuously train a new generation of talent who can shoulder the great task of national rejuvenation. What’s more, to promote high-quality development, we should improve the level of academic innovation with higher standards. (We should) adhere to the "four orientations" of scientific and technological innovation, focus on big scientific issues and core technology breakthroughs, take the five pilot projects as the guide, and vigorously promote the development of basic disciplines and new engineering disciplines. Furthermore, (we should) use "medicine +" and "information +" as the point of breakthrough, strive to boost the original ability of "from 0 to 1" and comprehensively promote the interdisciplinary integration. We will intensify efforts to develop West China Medicine into a world-class medicine.
As the teacher representative, Wang Yuzhong said in his speech that colleges and universities are the highland of national talent training and shoulder the important task of training high-level talent with both morality and expertise for the Party and the country. College teachers should teach students not only knowledge and learning methods, but also the truth of life.
Speaking as the alumni representative, Meng Daqiao indicated that he found it endearing to visit his alma mater every time. It was the careful cultivation of the school and teachers that enabled students to realize an important turning point in life and lay a solid foundation for career development. I am profoundly proud of being an alumnus of Sichuan. He hoped that the young students of Sichuan University will cherish their time at school and constantly pursue excellence. We should harbor the notion of loving the motherland and whole-hearted dedication. We should be good at learning at work and constantly improve and enrich ourselves. Only those with unremitting efforts and steadfast focus can succeed.

At the conference, Chu liangyin introduced the five pilot projects of SCU’s "Innovation 2035". Zheng Shusen gave a video report: "Future medicine: the development of organ transplantation", focusing on the scientific and technological frontier of the "future medical harbor plan". Wang Bangwei reported on "research program on mutual learning among civilizations and global governance” under the title of "Coordinated development of science and Humanities: Sichuan University and “features of Sichuan University”.
