The opening ceremony of the SCU Sports Meet 2020 was held on the athletics field of Jiang’an Campus on October 23.Chairman Jianguo Wang of the university council; President Yanrong Li; vice presidents Taiping Hou, Bin Liang, Rongjun Li, Lin Zhang, Liangyin Chu, as well as heads of individual departments, student representatives and athletes took part in the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Taiping Hou.

The opening ceremony kicked off when the guard of honor marched into the athletics field with the national flag. During the grand flag raising ceremony, the whole audience stood and faced the national flag, watching the five-star red flag rising slowly and flying in the sky above the stadium.

Bin Liang delivered the opening speech. He first gave congratulations on the opening of the games on behalf of the university.He pointed out that physical education is an important part of the university’s talent training. SCU has persisted in the practice to put education first, pay equal attention to personality and physique, integrating sportsmanship into the whole process of talent cultivation. SCU constantly strengthens the construction of campus sports infrastructure. Physical education and competitive level continues to improve, and so does the physical and mental health of teachers and students. The annual athletics meeting is not only an important review of university sports work, but also a concentrated display of the spirit of teachers and students. Finally, he wished the sports meet a total success.

Then, Jia Yan, the athlete representative from West China School of Stomatology, and Xuanli Wang, the referee representative from the College of Physical Education, took the oath in turn.

There are 27 sports events in the games, with 2,000 athletes and more than 5,000 teachers and students participating. After two days of fierce competition, West China School of Medicine, the Business School and West China School of Stomatology won the first, second and third place in total group score. 22 colleges, such as the School of History and Cultures (Tourism) and the Arts College won the best organization award; 16 colleges, including the College of Foreign languages and Cultures, the College of Mathematics, and the Wu Yuzhang Honors College, won the sportsmanship award. At the games, the Business School team broke the university record of women's relay race, and Qiyuan Zhu of the School of Economics broke the men's 800 meter record.

At the staff sports meet, the Logistics Department, the Administration Department and West China School of Stomatology (Hospital) won the first, second and third place in the total group score. Vice President Rongjun Li and leaders of relevant departments presented awards to the winners.
