The 2018 Sichuan University Sports Meet took place on 26thand 27thof October.
October is the month of golden autumn with osmanthus fragrance in the air. On the morning of October 26th, Sichuan University opened its 2018 Sports Meet on the athletics field in front of the Sports Center at Wangjiang Campus. Present at the opening ceremony were Chairman Jianguo Wang, vice chairmen Xufeng Li and Ping Cao, and vice presidents Bin Liang and Lin Zhang, among others. Present at this ceremony were also deans and directors of different colleges and departments, student representatives and student athletes. Lin Zhang presided over the opening ceremony.
Holding up the national flag, the university flag, the university badge and the banner “The sea contains every river; and the greatness contains everything”, the guard of honor is the first to march into the athletics field. Trailing behind are 35 floats of student athletes representing 35 schools and colleges. Holding their chins up and high and shouting slogans, the student athletes take uniform strides, marching into the field.
In his address at the opening ceremony, Vice President Liang expresses on behalf of the university his congratulations on the sports meet. He indicates that Sichuan University has remained persistent with the notion of educating people first, giving emphasis to both personality and physical well-being. With sportsmanship being an important part of education, Sichuan University will constantly promote the reform of physical education and strengthen the construction of sports facilities in campus. Finally, he wishes the sports meet a success. Vice President Cao announces the names of SCU’s advanced work units of physical education, outstanding sports teams, outstanding athletes and excellent coaches. After that, Tingwei zhao and Yu Huang make an oath on behalf of students and referees respectively.

After two days of fierce and exciting competitions, West China College of Clinical Medicine has won the first place in overall score; and West China College of Stomatology, School of Business and others have won second to 16thplace. College of Arts has won the Best Organization Award, and College of Computer Science and 11 other colleges Sportsmanship Award. What’s more, the women’s 4X100 relay team from College of Polymer Science and Engineering has broken the university record.
At the faculty and staff sports meet, the Logistics Department, Administrative Unit and West China College of Stomatology (West China Hospital of Stomatology) have won respectively the first place, the second place and the third place. West China College of Pharmacy, College of Architecture and Environment, Technology Industry Group and 26 other work units have won Sportsmanship Award.
