After “National Conference on Undergraduate Education in Universities and Colleges in the New Era” concluded, there have been many reports about SCU’s achievements in its undergraduate education through reform of class instruction. Media such as People’s Daily, CCTV,www.news.cn, Guangming Daily, China Education Daily and the Ministry of Education (on its website and WeChat) have complimented SCU for its efforts to promote the construction of first-class undergraduate school. CCTV has made a one minute 35 seconds long news report “Sichuan University: A ‘big reform’ by virtue of a ‘small class’” in CCTV News Program. The news item reportsthe "inquiry-small class" classroom teaching reform that SCU has carried out since 2010. The reform has achieved remarkable results in promoting the teaching in undergraduate education, and has aroused tremendous response in higher education circles and widespread concern in society.
SCU has become a popular focus for other provinces and universities to investigate and research. Since late June, over 200 universities and relevant work units have come, in succession, to visit for investigation, research, and study. Among those visitors are Guangdong education department, Ningxia education department, Peking University, Nanjing University and Zhejiang University.
In meeting with leaders of visiting universities, SCU administrators indicate that SCU attaches great importance to its undergraduate education, striving to provide each individual student with a quality education that fulfills the individual’ needs.To this end, the school takes the classroom teaching reform as a breakthrough point, and solidly promotes the first-class undergraduate construction and the first-class talent cultivation through a series of institutional mechanisms, such as the construction of curriculum system, the renewal of teaching concepts and methods, the reform of academic evaluation and examination methods, the transformation of intelligent teaching environment, generous-rewarding incentives and all-round strengthening of undergraduate teaching investment. It is through all these measures of reform and innovation that SCU has made some achievements in undergraduate education.
The relevant departments of the school have arranged symposiums, visits to intelligent teaching environment and lectures for visiting colleagues from other universities. At the symposiums, directors of relevant departments have given a general introduction of Sichuan University, including objectives of talents training, undergraduate talent training system, development of teachers and teaching, classroom teaching reform, international education, innovation and entrepreneurship education, system and mechanism guarantee and incentive, teacher team construction, laboratory building and so forth. In-depth discussions are conducted among the visitors with regard to the above-mentioned aspects.
Guests from other universities all find their visits educational and beneficial, complimenting SCU for the achievements it has made in undergraduate education reform. SCU people, who receive the visitors, suggest the following: first, the counterparts have brought good concepts and ways of action. Second, their visits have promoted exchange and cooperation; third, they have made us give a second thought to our construction of first-class undergraduate education and first-class talent cultivation. All these will give SCU a spur in its building of the best undergraduate school in the future.
