On the morning of March 25^th, the Sichuan Provincial Committee and the provincial government held a science and technology award conference in Chengdu to solemnly commend the scientific and technological workers who have made outstanding contributions to the cause of science and technology in Sichuan Province. Qinghua Peng, Secretary of the provincial Party committee, attended the meeting. Li Yin, deputy secretary and governor of Sichuan Province, delivered a speech. Zunping Ke, chairman of the provincial CPPCC, attended the meeting. Xiaogang Deng, deputy secretary of the provincial Party committee, chaired the meeting. At the conference, Yuhang Peng, vice governor of Sichuan Province, read out the Decision of the People's Government of Sichuan Province on Granting Sichuan Science and Technology Awards in 2018. The leaders of Qinghua Peng, Li Yin, Zunping Ke and Xiaogang Deng presented the awards to the winning delegates. SCU academician An-min Li and all the winners attended the conference. Vice-President Weilin Xu attended the conference on behalf of Sichuan University.

After the review committee of Sichuan Science and Technology Progress Award assessed and evaluated, then, the Provincial Science and Technology Award Committee confirmed the elections and the provincial government approved, the committee would confer Sichuan Science and Technology Progress Award upon 287 projects for the year 2018. There were 34 first prizes, 81 second prizes and 172 third prizes. SCU has won a total of 30 Sichuan Science and Technology Progress awards: nine first prizes ( SCU led seven of the nine projects ). Two of the first prize-winning projects were natural science projects and SCU was the project leader. Of the seven first prize science and technology progress projects, SCU led five of them. In addition, Wei Yang, a distinguished academician especially hired by Sichuan University, won Sichuan Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Prize. In recent years, our university has made great efforts to optimize the chain of scientific and technological innovation and enhance scientific and technological innovation around the aspects of "direction-talent-platform-project-achievement". By revising the "Science and Technology Award Measures", perfecting the organization mechanism of science and technology award mobilization, and launching and implementing the seed cultivation project of science and technology award, SCU has made new breakthroughs in promoting the work of science and technology award, and created a better academic atmosphere in the university, vigorously accelerating the construction of "double first-class" status.
