On the occasion of Sichuan University 123rd Anniversary, Sichuan University has established “three centers, one platform” and “Industrial Internet Research Center” in order to intensify interdisciplinary integration.
At the opening ceremony, President Yanrong Li suggested: “The launching of ‘3+1’ Industrial Internet Research Center and ‘1+3’ Medical Platform will surely focus the university’s scientific research more on technological frontiers and transform more achievements into local economic and social development, hence, promoting the reform of new engineering sciences and the development of Chengdu’s new economy.”
Combining medicine and engineering through “three centers and one platform” to help build first-class medicine
In front of all present at the ceremony, Sichuan University and China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd (CMCC) signed a strategic partnership agreement. According to the agreement, the two sides will initiate industrial alliance and launch a development fund for medicine and engineering integration in the amount of nearly 2 billion RMB. They will also carry out in-depth cooperation in the fields of 5G intelligent hospital, medical artificial intelligence and 5G telemedicine. Supplementing each other concerning resources, technology, and market, the two will join hands in exploring the application of 5G, big data and AI in medicine and education and incubate new technologies, new products and new standards in the future-oriented industries. In addition, they will build a new ecology for the cooperative development of businesses and universities. The four hospitals of West China School of Medicine have signed a cooperative agreement with China Mobile Industry Research Institute (Chengdu) and China Mobile Sichuan Company to build 5G+smart medicine in order to provide better medical services.
Being an important measure for Sichuan University to implement discipline development by virtue of the "medicine + " and "information +" dual-engine, the "three centers and one platform" got launched on the spot. Specifically speaking,TheMedicine + Information Center will implement innovations in new medical service modes such as Internet medicine, telemedicine and intelligent medicine. The Medicine + Materials Center will carry out research and development of new medical materials as well as their transformation. Besides, the Medicine + Manufacturing Center will focus on research and development, design and manufacture of high-end diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. 5G Medical Conversion and Application Platform plays a major role in innovation by means of deep integration with enterprises, promoting the transformation and application of medicine and engineering integration projects.
Weimin Li, director of West China Hospital, said that 5G technology would make Internet + medical treatment a reality and facilitate the practice of mobile ICU. Patients’ information in remote areas and grass-roots hospitals can be transmitted to West China Hospital in real time through 5G technology, which is more convenient for telemedicine and consultation. Weimin Li also said that the construction of "three centers and one platform" would promote the establishment of medical big data. "Big data is the most important foundation of future AI, and AI is a new support point for the whole medical service and medical education in the future."
In addition, the "three centers and one platform" project will also set up a Medicine + Information Industry Alliance to promote the innovation of new medical services such as Internet medicine, telemedicine and intelligent medicine. Joining hands with relevant units in the university, they will forge an industrial alliance to promote the development and transformation of intelligent diagnostic and therapeutic equipment that is personalized, portable, and flexible.
“3+1” Industrial Internet Research Center is founded to accelerate the construction of “new engineering” at Sichuan University
In order to further promote the transformation of related disciplines to "new engineering disciplines", SCU has decided to establish "3+1" Industrial Internet Research Center, which consists of Intelligent Water Conservancy Research Center, Interconnected Chemical Research Center, Ubiquitous Power Internet of Things Research Center, Engineering Science Computing and Data Analysis Center. The Industrial Internet Research Center is an important measure conducive to the construction of "new engineering disciplines" in our university. It is also a cross-entity scientific research platform for "Internet + Engineering" disciplines. In promoting scientific research, the center aims at the frontier of discipline development and develops key common technologies with independent intellectual property rights. The center will also keep up with the development needs of industry and strive to cooperate with leading enterprises in this field.
Under the framework of Industrial Internet Research Center, the university will launch the construction of Intelligent Water Conservancy Research Center, Interconnected Chemical Research Center, Ubiquitous Power Internet of Things Research Center and Engineering Science Computing and Data Analysis Center by drawing upon College of Water Resource and Hydropower, School of Chemical Engineering, College of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. It is reported that the construction of the four industrial Internet research centers, which are prioritized by the university, will have substantial progress during the year. These centers will not only vigorously promote the construction of "new engineering subjects" in our university, but also lead related disciplines to meet the challenges of science and technology in future. Coupled with the dual engineer of “Medicine + Information”, these centers will help the construction of a world first-class university.
