On April 29, SCU held the Seventh Sichuan University International Young Scholars Forum in Mingde Building, Wangjiang Campus. President Yanrong Li, Vice President Lin Zhang, heads of relevant SCU departments, and more than 300 young scholars from world-class universities and research institutions such as Harvard University, Columbia University, andMax Planck Institute (MPI),Germany joined the BBS forum to talk about developments. The forum was chaired by Lin Zhang.
On behalf of the university and Chairman Jianguo Wang, Yanrong Li first welcomed the young scholars in attendance at the forum. After briefly introducing the basic situation of the university, he said that at present, we are vigorously promoting the connotation development of the arts, science, engineering and medicine, striving to run "the best medicine, the first-class arts, science and new engineering". Speaking of “Why to choose Sichuan University for a career”, Yanrong Li talked about three reasons: first, the multidisciplinary advantages of Sichuan University, especially the interdisciplinary integration represented by "medicine +" and "information +", provide the foundation for scholars to carry out interdisciplinary research. At the forum, young scholars from Sweden, the United States and Germany respectively exchanged views with President Yanrong Li regarding their own research fields, the development plans of Sichuan University, and issues of concern to young scholars. Ling Ye, director of the Medicine + Materials Center and dean of West China School/Hospital of Stomatology, introduced the construction of the Medicine + Materials Center and the related situation of West China stomatology
Bing Hu, director of the Human Resources Department, briefly introduced the development of SCU’s double first-class project, and the interdisciplinary promotion which centers around "three centers, one platform" of medicine and engineering integration and the "Industrial Internet Research Center" of new engineering. He especially explained the university’s talent notion, open positions and policies to attract and support the development of talent, and answered the young scholars’ questions about the contract terms of special researchers, the requirements for becoming a permanent full-time researcher, salary and fringe benefits, local talent policies, and so on.
It is reported that SCU’s 35 colleges will respectively hold BBS sub forums on individual disciplines in the near future. The sub forums will be conducted in the form of academic reports and "one-on-one" talks to help the young talent at home and abroad to better understand the development platform and the development of various disciplines at Sichuan University. Actually, this forum was well received by young scholars, and the number reached 420. The young scholars all indicated that this BBS forum has not only allowed them to realize SCU’s demand and appreciation for young talent, but also deepened their understanding of the university. They are especially impressed with the interdisciplinary integration represented by "medicine +" and "information +", as well as the favorable terms and conditions for young scholars.
