On August 25, our university signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Chongqing municipal government. Liangzhi Tang, mayor of Chongqing; Wenrong Hu, head of the Organization Department; Qian Qu, vice mayor of Chongqing; Jianguo Wang, chairman of the university council of SCU; Yanrong Li, president of SCU, and vice presidents Shijing Yan and Bin Liang attended the signing ceremony.
On behalf of the city of Chongqing, Liangzhi Tang expressed his welcome to Jianguo Wang, Yanrong Li and the SCU delegation and thanked SCU for its long-standing support of the development of Chongqing.Liangzhi Tang said that Chongqing is vigorously promoting the construction of the two-city economic circle in Chengdu and Chongqing regions as well as the coordinated development of "one district, two groups" . We would further boost scientific and technological innovation anchored by big data intelligence, promote the construction of the western (Chongqing) science city at high starting point and standards. We would pool innovative resources, reinforce scientific research, promote scientific and technological exchanges, plan and arrange for a series of scientific apparatus and facilities so as to accelerate the development of a science and technology innovation center that is influential nationwide. Sichuan and Chongqing are interconnected in terms of geography, people and culture. Sichuan University is strong in scientific research and teems with talent. Its nameplate academic subjects have distinctive edges. Therefore, it is promising to deepen the cooperation between Sichuan University and Chongqing. He hoped that the two sides would take the signing of the agreement as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation in the fields of "double first-class" development, collaborative innovation, and higher education so as to promote the development of the University Alliance of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, and help Chongqing generate new development momentum through scientific and technological innovation. Chongqing would do its best to provide good service and promote the cooperation projects with high standard and high quality.
On behalf of the university, Jianguo Wang thanked the Chongqing municipal government and the Party committee, especially Mayor Tang, for their long-term support for the development of Sichuan University. He said that it is not only the responsibility but also the honor of Sichuan University, as a high-level comprehensive university in Western China, to promote the development of the two-city economic circle in Chengdu and Chongqing regions, and the construction of a nationally influential science and technology innovation center. Sichuan University will take the signing of this agreement as an opportunity to meet the needs of Chongqing and try its best to perfect the long-term mechanism of the city-university cooperation. SCU will actively implement the terms of the agreement, carry out in-depth cooperation with relevant universities, scientific research institutes and enterprises in Chongqing. Moreover, it will accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, assist the development of Chongqing's colleges and universities, and contribute to the high-quality development of Chongqing.
Yanrong Li briefly introduced the cooperation between Sichuan University and universities in Chongqing in recent years as well as the progress of SCU’s double first-class development and its goals for the 14th five-year plan. He said that the construction of the two-city economic circle in Chengdu and Chongqing has provided new opportunities and impetus for the development of colleges and universities in the two places. The attention and support of the Chongqing municipal Party committee and the municipal government, especially Mayor Tang, to higher education has greatly inspired the universities in both places. Sichuan University will give full play to the advantages of a comprehensive university and carefully refine the contents of the agreement in order to help Chongqing's economic and social development.
According to the agreement, the two sides will carry out practical cooperation in strategic decision-making consultation, think tank support, discipline development, talent exchange and training, as well as building a collaborative innovation carrier of the city and the university, and supporting the construction of scientific research platforms.
