It is March and spring has set in. With colorful flowers in blossom and birds twittering on the trees, SCU campus is vibrant with life. In order to enrich campus art atmosphere and promote the comprehensive development of the students, SCU held two concerts on March 24 and 25. At the concerts “Rhythm of Spring—Introduce Lofty Art to Campus”, SCU Orchestra and Symphony joined hands with the University of Washington Wind Ensemble and gave wonderful performances of orchestra to SCU teachers and students.
The University of Washington Wind Ensemble is a group of the best wind and percussion performers selected from students majoring in various disciplines at the University of Washington. It has given many performances in the United States and around the world, including the premiere of some outstanding new music works and many tours in China.
The University of Washington Wind Ensemble performed in Wangjiang Campus and Jiang’an Campus successively. The teachers and students of SCU Symphony & Orchestra also performed together with members of the University of Washington Wind Ensemble. The climax of the concert has brought wonderful artistic enjoyment to the audience.
During their visit at SCU, Xiangcheng Li, vice chairman of the university council and vice-president of SCU, met with all members of the wind ensemble in the VIP Hall of Mingde Building, Wangjiang Campus on March 25.
At the meeting, Xiangcheng Li, on behalf of the university, expressed warm welcome to the University of Washington Wind Ensemble and praised the excellent performance of the orchestra. He pointed out that Sichuan University and the University of Washington signed an agreement on cooperation and exchange as early as 2002, and both sides had a good basis for cooperation and produced fruitful results. He expected that the two universities would establish more extensive and pragmatic cooperation in a broader field in the future, and make new and greater contributions to the cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries.
Professor Timothy Salzman, art director and conductor of the University of Washington Symphony & Orchestra, thanked Sichuan University for its warm reception. He said that the exchange and cooperation between the University of Washington and Sichuan University had a long history and achieved remarkable results. SCU did a wonderful job performing with the University of Washington Wind Ensemble. He indicated that he highly agreed with the educational idea that Sichuan University attaches great importance to the all-round development of students. He expected to continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Sichuan University in the fields of art and education in the future.
