Date:Apr 17, 2019

Boasting beautiful campuses, Sichuan University is a prestigious institution of higher education, which is the home to outstanding scholars and the cradle of numerous people of great talent. On April 13th, SCU teachers and students sang in chorus in praise of the great motherland by Wangjiang Tower, Mingyuan Lake, on Bugaoshan Hill and at the foot of the Bell Tower.

The national university online singing campaign “Youth, Sing for Motherland” was launched on March 31st  in universities and colleges across China. The MV song that Sichuan University sang was directed and filmed by SCU Publicity Department, and SCU relevant departments and colleges provided generous support. The SCU song "Looking at Mountains, Watching Water, Watching China" was adapted from the well-known Sichuan folksong "Looking at Mountains, Watching Water, Watching Sichuan". Centering around the theme of strengthening the country through science and education, and pursuing dreams of revitalization, this song blends the three elements of China, Sichuan and Sichuan University superbly. It sings in praise of the great motherland, Sichuan Province, the land of abundance, the magnificent alma mater, the current and the brighter future. And it has fully expressed SCU teachers’ and students’ patriotism, determination to serve the motherland and actions to revitalize China.

In creating this theme MV song, Sichuan University teachers, students and alumni worked together and put in all their passions singing in praise of the motherland. Professor Benhe Zhong, a first prize winner of the National Science and Technology Progress Prize, winner of Ho Leung Ho Lee ( HLHL ) Progress Award, and representative of “Huang Danian Style Teacher Team”, Professor Shunqing Cao, a Changjiang Scholars Program outstanding professor and a fellow of European Academy of Sciences and Arts ( EASA ), Professor Yang Zhang, Professor Lei Zhang sang along with SCU young students, cheering for Sichuan University and the motherland. Four international students from New Zealand, Bangladesh, Ukraine and Rwanda also came together hand in hand to sing and applaud for China on behalf of students from all over the world. The crew especially made a trip to the Wangjiang Exhibition Hall showcasing the revolutionary deeds of Zhujun Jiang (Sister Jiang), an outstanding SCU alumnus, to shoot for this MV.

As soon as the MV song was put on air, it has aroused widespread attention among SCU teachers and students as well as in society. Since its appearance on the university’s official micro-blog, it has received 320,000 visits and then been forwarded and published by other media, such as Micro-Voice Education, Micro-Blog Campus and so on. The university has also published a feature article on its wechat, introducing the moving stories of the shooting of the scenes. Authoritative media such as Sichuan Satellite TV, Sichuan News Network and Sichuan Online have also paid close attention to and reported the singing activities of our university, jointly presenting a gift to the motherland for her 70th birthday.
