Sichuan University held its 2020 New Year Gala in the Wangjiang Gymnasium, Wangjiang Campus on the evening of December 31. Those attending the gala included Chairman Jianguo Wang of the university council; President Yanrong Li; all other leaders of the university; Xingdong Zhang, Bi Shi, and Yuzhong Wang, all academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Xiaoming Feng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; SCU distinguished professors Shunqing Cao, Benhe Zhong, Shichuang Zhan, Wei Huo; Lixin Tang, the donor of the “ Tang Lixin Teaching Prize ”, founder and chairmanof the ShineSun Group;teachers, students and alumni representatives.
At the gala, the organizer released the " top ten news of Sichuan University in 2019 " in video. The top ten news items summarized SCU fruitful achievements of 2019 in the Party building, personnel training, faculty development, scientific research, social services, international cooperation, logistic services for teachers and students, etc. The 2020 New Year Gala kicked off with the instrumental ensemble of “ New Year’s Prelude ”. "Praise the Motherland", and a quartet of " Festival Songs " by the Music Department and the student art troupe, expressed the Sichuan people’s best wishes to the great motherland.
The chorus " Remain Truthful to the Original Goa l ” encourages Sichuan University teachers, students and alumni to stick to their original goal and continue to work hard for their mission. The musical “ Sister Jiang at SCU ” introduces the heroin Sister Jiang who has given her life for the motherland and the people. “ Red Memory " recalls the memories of formidable struggle in the past, advocating the patriotic spirit of never forgetting the original goal.
Next, the eight characters of the 2019 top ten news items go onto the stage to share with the audience their respective work experience over the past year, and wish Sichuan University a splendid future. The eight representatives are YijuanCheng, a Nightingale Awards winner; Academician Xiaoming Feng of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; distinguished professors Shichuang Zhan and Wei Huo; Jianren Niu, winner of “ Tang Lixin Teaching Award ”; Jianshu Li, winner ofthe National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars;Yi Li, the " Internet + " national competition gold medalist; Xinrui Li, the class monitor of Sister Jiang’s class.
The trio " Big Fish ", a piece by a combination of Chinese and Western instruments of piano, guzheng and Xiao, makes the audience indulge in the music and story of " big fish ". " Koi " is a beautiful dance to send good wishes for the Spring Festival. The chorus " I Love You, China " was impassioned. The famiiar melody resonates with the audience, and the audience hums along with the melody.
The dance " the Brightest Star in the Night Sky " illustrates how the Sichuan University students travel vigorously on their journey to their goal. Female students from India and Sri Lanka perform the traditional Indian dance of “ Welcome the New Year ", expressing their New Year’s regards to the audience. The number " Looking at Mountains, Water and China " exhibits the Chinese people’s tenacity and prowess as well as the vast land with mountains and rivers.
Prize winner representatives of different prizes and awards in 2019, including Xiaolin Yang, step on the stage to meet with the audience and give their best regards to the university. Xiaolin Yang is awarded the Tang Lixin Outstanding Management and Service Prize.
In the folk dance " The National Grand Celebration ", dancers are wearing colorful national costumes and dancing with enthusiasm to welcome a more brilliant tomorrow together. The party concludes in the chorus of " Singing in Praise of the Motherland " while all the actors and audience wave the five-star red flag.
