On the afternoon of April 10th, President Yanrong Li met with President Hugh Brady and Vice President Erik Lithander of the University of Bristol in the VIP Hall on Wangjiang Campus. Vice-President Lin Zhang and the heads of the Academic Affairs Office, Office of Scientific Research and Development, the International Office, School of Life Sciences and West China School of Medicine/West China Hospital attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Yanrong Li, on behalf of the school, welcomed President Hugh Brady and his delegation and briefly introduced the situation of Sichuan University. Yanrong Li pointed out that the exchanges between Chinese and British universities have been active in recent years. Bristol University has a good international reputation and has trained a large number of outstanding students. He stressed that Sichuan University is currently speeding up the construction of a world first-class university in an all-round way, and taking the internationalization strategy as one of the important measures to enhance the strength and influence of the university. It maintains a good cooperative relationship with many well-known universities in the United Kingdom. It holds "International Course Week" every year, and has launched the "Dachuan Vision" plan for overseas study-visits of university students in order to open up the students’ international viewpoint.
Yanrong Li said that the signing of the memorandum between the two universities was a starting point, and Sichuan University would further strengthen in-depth cooperation with the University of Bristol in student exchanges, teacher visits and scientific research cooperation. Hugh Brady indicated that it was an honor to visit Sichuan University for the first time and thanked the school for its warm reception. After a brief introduction of the basic situation of the University of Bristol, Hugh Brady said that there are many similarities between the University of Bristol and Sichuan University. The University of Bristol has strong scientific research strength. It attaches great importance to the development of interdisciplinary integration, and pays attention to the cultivation of students' scientific research ability. He hoped that his visit and the signing of the memorandum would further enhance mutual understanding, strengthen cooperation in student exchanges, teacher visits and joint scientific research, and promote the common development of the two universities, making greater contributions to the cultural, educational and scientific exchanges between the two countries.
Subsequently, Yanrong Li and Hugh Brady signed agreements on behalf of the two universities. According to the agreements, the two universities will send teachers and researchers to teach and participate in scientific research; carry out student exchanges, including undergraduates, master and doctoral students; carry out scientific research cooperation in areas of common interest and build scientific research cooperation platforms.
