Dr. Max Cynader, fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, academician of the Canadian Academy for Health Sciences, and founding director of the Brain Research Center, visited Sichuan University on the afternoon of January 6. President Yanrong Li met with Dr. Max Cynader in the VIP Hall on Wangjiang Campus. Vice President Shijing Yan and heads of relevant SCU departments attended the meeting.
Yanrong Li expressed, on behalf of the university, welcome to Dr. Max Cynader. He pointed out that both sides have made progress in the joint research on brain health and intervention since the establishment of Dr. Max Cynader Academician Work Station at West China Hospital- in July last year. Yanrong Li said that the university attaches great importance to the cooperation between UBC and Sichuan University in medical science. He expected the two sides to focus on artificial intelligence, big data, computer, software engineering, life science and other related fields and strengthen in-depth cooperation in scientific research on challenging projects and product transformation in brain science, making contributions to brain science.
Dr. Max Cynader thanked SCU for his warm reception. He said that cooperation with Sichuan University is the best choice and the most important cooperation. Artificial intelligence and brain health is a very complex research project, which requires the cooperation of computer science, biological science, big data, neuroscience, clinical medicine and other related fields. He hoped that the two sides could work together to promote the development of artificial intelligence and brain health research by drawing upon the interdisciplinary advantages of Sichuan University. The two sides discussed the International Brain Science Research Forum, academic cooperation projects among other related issues.
The research project of artificial intelligence and brain health is led by Dr. Max Cynader’s team and experts from West China School of Medicine, Sichuan University. The research team consists of clinicians ( in imaging, neurology, psychiatry, sleep, rehabilitation, nutrition, geriatrics, etc. ), data analysis experts and artificial intelligence experts. Employing artificial intelligence and big data application technology, the research is focused on leading technologies related to brain health throughout a life cycle, such as early warning, diagnosis, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and whole process constant management. The project intends to establish a platform for a series of high-tech research, development and integration that ranges from software, hardware, genes imaging, drugs, equipment, people, data, standards to guidelines. The researchers will strive to realize technology transfer and application. They will also develop intelligent, agile and user-friendly early warning and preventive intervention system for brain health screening so as to form AI industry standards, models and guidelines.
