Wang Yuzhong and Wang Hongning Won the Third National Innovation Excellence Award

May 30th marks the seventh National Science and Technology Workers' Day, and the third National Innovation Excellence Award Conference was grandly held in Beijing. Wang Yuzhong, a CAE academician and professor of the College of Chemistry and Wang Hongning, a professor of the College of Life Sciences won awards.

The National Innovation Excellence Award is jointly established by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council to recognize and reward scientific and technological workers and collectives who have made outstanding achievements in innovation. The award ispresented once every three years with no more than ten scientific research teams being recognized and awarded a plaque of merit, and no more than 30 scientific and technological workers recognized and awarded medals. In addition, it commends and issues certificate of merit to no more than 300 scientific and technological workers.

Introduction of award winners

Wang Yuzhong is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at the College of Chemistry, Sichuan University. Being engaged in the research of organic polymer materials for a long time, he has made important contributions in the fields of flame retardant materials, bio-based and biodegradable materials and recycling and upgrading of polymer materials, and has created national and provincial R&D platforms in a number of related fields.

Moreover, he has presided over major projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and national key research and development plan projects. He has published papers with 20,000 SCI citations in the past five years, with patent technology implementation licensing fees exceeding 100 million yuan. What’s more, he has drafted 21 national standards.

Professor Wang Hongning is the dean of the College of Life Sciences at Sichuan University. Focusing on the prevention and control of bacterial diseases in pigs and chickens, she has innovated theories, technologies, and methods to solve the problems of relying on antibiotics to prevent and control bacterial diseases, severe drug resistance and residue, and unsafe products. Her research results have been widely applied in major pig and chicken production areas in China.She takes the lead in carrying out the integration, tracing, prediction, and warning of multi drug resistant foodborne pathogens in the "animal- food -human" sector, serving the Healthful China strategy.
