On the morning of May 30, the Chinese Academy of Engineering held its 16th academician conference in Beijing, and announced winners of the14th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award. Wang Qi, academician of CAE andprofessor of the State key Laboratory of Polymer Materials Engineering of China (Sichuan University) was honored with the 14th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award for her outstanding achievements and contributions in the field of plastics processing.
An expert of plastics processing engineering, Wang Qi is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, professor and doctoral supervisor of Polymer Research Institute of Sichuan University. She is also the chief editor of Polymer Materials Science and Engineering, the international journal SusMat, and deputy director of Expert Committee of China Plastics Processing Industry Association. In addition, She is chief scientist of the advanced plastic manufacturing and processing platform of Sichuan University
Wang Qi has been dedicated to the research and industrial application of new theories, new technologies and new equipment in the field of plastics processing. In light of the national demands in plastics processing, she and her team have overcome many world problems and made outstanding contributions to the scientific and technological progress and development of China's plastics processing industry.
Some of her main achievements include the invention of new equipment and technology for rotary extrusion of plastic pipes to prepare high-performance plastic pipes; the new technology of polyvinyl alcohol thermoplastic processing and melt spinning, which enables the novel application of environment friendly polyvinyl alcohol; the invention of environment-friendly halogen-free flame retardant plastics and the engineering application of a number of achievements and so forth. She has won two second prizes of the National Technological Invention Award, onescience and technology innovation award of HLHL foundation, one China Patent Gold Award, one provincial and ministerial special award, five first prizes, and the honorary titles such as "Outstanding Figure in China's Plastic Industry" and "National March 8th Red Flag Bearer".
Moreover, Wang Qi has obtained 86 patents, published 512 academic journal papers, cultivated 60 doctoral students, and 106 master's students.
