The clinical research of the West China Hospital has made a historic breakthrough. Professor Chao You's team of neurosurgery and Professor Craig Anderson's team ofthe George Institute for Global Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of New South Wales,Australia jointly published in The Lancet the results of randomized controlled trials in identifying an effective treatmentfor intracerebral haemorrhageon a combined management scheme including enhanced blood pressure lowering in.

This study involved over 7,000 patients in 121 hospitals in 10 countries, and found for the first time that combination management can effectively reduce the mortality rate of cerebral hemorrhage and improve functional prognosis. “Implementation of a care bundle protocol for intensive blood pressure lowering and other management algorithms for physiological control within several hours of the onset of symptoms resulted in improved functional outcome for patients with acute intracerebral haemorrhage.” (Interpretation)The research results were also announced at the 9th European Stroke Organisation Conference in Munich, Germany, causing widespread attention and heated discussion in the global stroke community.

The co first authors are Professor Lu Ma and Associate Professor Xin Hu of the Neurosurgery Department, Dr. Lili Song and Dr. Xiaoying Chen ofthe George Institute for Global Health; and Chao You and Craig Anderson are the co corresponding authors.

Publishing original articles in top international medical journals, providing high-level evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment, and providing better solutions for disease diagnosis and treatment have always been important reference indicators for the research level of medical institutions. There is a common belief that only multicenter interventional clinical trials can be published in the four top medical journals. As a matter of fact, observational clinical trials, especially cohort study, still account for 1/3 of the total number of published articles according to the survey of the publication of articles in the four top medical journals by the Office of Scheme Design and Statistics of the Clinical Research Management Department of West China Hospital in the past three years. Therefore, high-quality cohort study is also of great clinical value.
