In cooperation with Shanghai Xingzhuang Memory Alloy Material Co., Ltd. and Professor Pan Xiangbin of Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the team of Professor Wang Yunbing, director ofSichuan University-National Engineering Research Center for Biomaterials, worked out a fully degradable occluder system after nine years of hard work. The occluder has recently got approved for listing by the National Medical Products Administration. It indicates that China has made a breakthrough in the field of fully degradable occluder and entered the world's leading ranks.
The degradation cycle of the device is designed according to the human tissue repair cycle, which matches tissue repair. While ensuring the successful closure of congenital heart defect, the occluder can be completely degraded after one year, leaving no foreign body residue. Thus, it avoids the long-term complications that may be caused by the traditional metal occluder which remains in the body after implantation, and enables the healthy growth of patients with congenital heart disease.
