Sichuan University Press has recently published the General History of Chinese Cities (Hereinafter referred to as the General History),which is the research achievement of the national key social science project during the 13th “five-year plan”. Prof. He Yimin is the chief editor of the work.
He Yimin has worked painstakingly to compile the series of books for more than 30 years.The General History is also attributed to the collective research of researchers of the Urban Research Institute of Sichuan University. With the overall characteristics of Chinese urban history as the center and the evolution of urban civilization as the main line, the General History is divided into seven periods according to the order of dynasties. One volume is focused on each period, plus an introduction chapter. The work consists of eight volumes and seven sections, totaling more than 4.5 million words.
Being China's first monograph on general urban history, this work systematically expounds the origin, development and evolution of Chinese cities, and comprehensively shows the unique civilization in Chinese cities and the great contribution of the Chinese nation to human civilization.
