In order to effectively cope with the severe challenge of global medicine shortages, the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) established the FIP Policy Committee on Medicines Shortages and drew up the FIP Statement of Policy on Medicines Shortages (hereinafter referred to as the "Statement") in 2020. Recommended by the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, Prof. Zhang Lingli of SCU’s West China Second University Hospital has become the only Chinese member on the Committee.
Drawing upon her experience in international and national medicine shortage policy research and formulation, Zhang Lingli, together with global experts, has vigorously contributed to the formulation of the Statement, offering the wisdom of Chinese experts in the formulation of the framework, main contents, causes, influencing factors and coping strategies of the "Statement". She proposed that China should amend its legislation on the priority review and approval of drugs in urgent need in clinical practice, pay close attention to the accessibility of children's medicines, and formulate evidence-based guidelines. All her proposals have been adopted and included in the Statement.
