The world famous JAMA Internal Medicine ( IF: 19.989 ) has recently published in its Original Investigation of Research section a long research paper entitled “Association of Corticosteroid Treatment With Outcomes in Adult Patients With Sepsis: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis” by the research team of Professor Fang Fang, Professor Jianguo Xu and Professor Chao You of the Department of Neurosurgery, West China Hospital.
Corticosteroids have been widely used as an adjuvant therapy for adult sepsis patients since the mid-20th century. Its safety and efficacy has remained controversial despite a large number of randomized controlled trials. This research, which included 37 studies and 9,564 patients, has concluded that the administration of corticosteroids can reduce 28-day mortality in adults with sepsis.
The research findings have garnered widespread attention. Medical Research first published an interview with the research team, which focused on the significance of the findings and the suggestions for future research. According to preliminary statistics, the findings have been reprinted or reported in 80 articles on Twitter, two articles on Facebook and one by blog. The research paper’s Altimetric Attention Score is 59 with an attention rate at the 98th percentile in a group of 12,357,891 papers.
Being the most important periodical of JAMA ( Journal Of American Medical Association ), JAMA Internal Medicine is a top-notch journal with big academic clout. Professor Fang Fang, MD of West China Hospital is the first author, and Professor Jianguo Xu and Professor Chao You are the corresponding authors. Yu Zhang, Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University, is the co-first author of the paper. The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center participated in the research.
