In cooperation with well-known cerebrovascular diseases experts at home and abroad, Professor Ming Liu’s research team from Neurology Department of West China Hospital, Sichuan University has published a long research paper Stroke in China: Advances and Challenges in Epidemiology, Prevention, and Managementin The Lancet Neurology, 2019; 18:394-405, ( JIF: 27.138 ), the world's leading academic journal of neurology. Professor Ming Liu is the corresponding author; Simiao Wu, PhD and Professor Bo Wu are both first authors. SCU West China Hospital is the first work unit.

Based on a through spatial and temporal comparison/analysis of research statistics in the prevention and management of stroke in China between 2007 to 2018, this research paper reveals the current conditions, progress and challenges in the prevention and management of stroke in China and puts forward the future coping strategies. Employing the data published by Professor Ming Liu's team in Lancet Neurol from 1983 to 2006 ( Lancet Neurol 2007; 6:456-464 ), Chinese and foreign readers will have a systematic, comprehensive, and quick understanding of the disease burden and prevention of stroke in the past 40 years after China's reform and opening up.

Being funded by the key international ( regional ) cooperation projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the 13th Five-Year Key R & D projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology of People’s Republic of China, the key R & D projects of the Sichuan Science and Technology Department and the 1.3.5 Project of Excellent Development of Disciplines of West China Hospital, Professor Ming Liu's team is currently working on optimizing the prevention and treatment of acute cerebral infarction, hemorrhage transformation, acute cerebrovascular disease, severe and massive cerebral infarction therapeutic strategies among other clinically hot and difficult issues.
