On the afternoon of March 1st 2019, the World Class Construction Office (WUCO) held its new semester work planning meeting. The meeting conveyed to all attendees the spirit of Chairman Jianguo Wang’s Speech at the SCU Work Planning Conference and explained items one after another in the 2019 Annual Work Planning Report by President Yanrong Li at the third plenary session of the Fourth SCU Faculty Congress and the third plenary session of the Third SCU Trade Union Member Congress. Given the above-mentioned report and the responsibilities and tasks of WUCO, Director Zhong-ming Li unfolded a work plan for the key tasks of the construction of “ double first-class ” status in the new semester to meet the new challenges and new opportunities in the development of SCU.
WUCO will continue to stand by the spirit of the national " double first-class " construction documents, promote the " double first-class " construction in accordance with the " Sichuan University World-class University Construction Program " and " Implementation Program ", looking forward to the mid-term evaluation. SCU will accelerate the implementation of the co-construction agreement between the Ministry of Education and Sichuan Province, and comprehensively carry out the cooperation between the city of Chengdu and SCU in order to promote the co-construction of a world-class university by the ministry, province and city. The office will implement the spirits of “Work the Real Issues and Walk in the Forefront in 2018 ” and “ 2019 Sichuan University Work Report for the New Semester ” by President Li, and follow the development path of " excellent liberal arts, improved sciences, reformed engineering and strong medicine ", boosting academic subject connotations. Furthermore, SCU will enact the " Information+ " and " Medicine+ " twin-engine plans, build new engineering disciplines and interdisciplinary centers; speed up the optimization shakeup of discipline structure, and implement the discipline leap plan. Besides, SCU will create " A+ " disciplines/top-notch disciplines, and investigate other colleges and universities regarding academic degree accreditation in order to form Sichuan University methods and work out the annual development report of disciplines.
Party Secretary Huaming Chen stressed the requirement “ Carry out, carry out, and carry out again ” at work, calling upon all faculty and staff to innovate their styles and ways of work. He requested that the faculty and staff should strive to enhance the connotation development of WUCO by means of internal interdisciplinary exchange and study of research papers. WUCO should become a department of discipline construction and policy research, contributing to the cause to build Sichuan University into a world-class university with Chinese characteristics and SCU style.
