In 2022, more than 85% of graduates of the West China School ofBasic Medical Sciences and Forensic Medicine(WCSBMS)will seek further study in a graduate school. The rate has exceeded 90% in the major of Basic Medical Sciences, setting a new record of the school and ranking first in the whole university. Of the 76 graduates of Class 2022, 52 have been admitted to Peking University, Zhejiang University and other domestic first-class universities and scientific research institutions. 13 will go to ETH Zurich, Columbia University in New York, the Imperial College London of the UK for further studies.
WCSBMS always has as its top priority the training of undergraduates, encouraging students to set ambitious goals and constantly pursue excellence. With regard to the freshman class, the school enacts the "academic career navigation plan", encourages students to decide on feasible development goals, master scientific learning methods, and develop good learning habits. For students of low and middle grades, the school implements the "excellent academic leadership plan", mobilizes students to actively participate in various discipline competitions. Additionally, the school assigns each student to an advisor and sets up school-level scientific research projects. Meanwhile, the school has budgeted special funds for students to study abroad, attend international courses and academic conferences, constantly broadening students' international vision.
Moreover, the school has implemented a plan to improve the graduating undergraduates’ core competitiveness. The school has also organized a work group to boost students’ chances of further study by clarifying the responsibilities and division of work. It sets up special funds for further education, improve students' learning and living conditions, and subsidize students to participate in various trainings. Teachers give mock interviews, edit and revise interview PPTs for students, helping students with interview ability and skills. The one-on-one tutorials guide students to set up viable secondary goals so as to improve the success rate of getting admitted into an alternative program.
