The Second Materials Innovation for Sustainable Development/SusMat Annual Forum

On the morning of December 25, the "2021 Second Forum On Materials Innovation for Sustainable Development/SusMat Academic Annual Meeting" was held in Chengdu Jiayuan International Hotel. Sichuan University,John Wiley & Sons, Inc (known as Wiley, for short)and SusMat sponsored this forum together. More than 310 scholars attended the forum. They included the CAE academicians of Qu Jiuhui, and Yue Guojun; the CAS academicians of Li Yongfang and Ma Yuguang; Yang Jun, fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering; Sun Shuhui, fellow of the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada; Mao Dafu, Secretary of the Party committee of Sichuan Association for Science and Technology, and President Li Yanrong of Sichuan University, Xu Guangchen, director of Physical Sciences, Wiley (China).Zhang Chuhong, professor of the Polymer Research Institute of Sichuan University and executive editor of SusMat presided over the opening ceremony.

In his opening address, President Li Yanrong congratulated on the convening of this forum and the important achievements of SusMat since its inception in 2020. He pointed out that the research on materials has always been the research frontier in Sichuan University. SCU is willing to work with experts and scholars to tackle key technologies and application scenarios in the field of green and low-carbon materials, and strive to promote green and low-carbon transformation and sustainable development of materials.

Mao Dafu, Wang Qi, and Xu Guangchen delivered speeches respectively and congratulated on the convening of the meeting. They hoped that SusMat will play a strong role in promoting the development of science and technology and related industries in Sichuan province and global sustainable development. Subsequently, SusMat established the first youth editorial committee composed of 55 outstanding young scholars, and awarded honorary certificates to the authors of five excellent research papers.

The main forum focuses on hot issues and cutting-edge research in the fields of clean energy, green catalysis, environmental-friendly materials and pollution control. Qu Jiuhui, Li Yongfang, Yue Guojun, Ma Yuguang, Yang Jun and Sun Shuhui made reports. 63 experts from 46 units in China made keynote speeches, and more than 310 experts and scholars attended the conference. In addition, the forum organized two special reports by women scientists and held thematic activities on the intersection of SusLink and industry. This forum is a grand event for the sustainable development of materials, and is of great significance to the scientific research, engineering application and industry development of sustainable materials in China.

SusMat is jointly founded by Sichuan University and Wiley. As a new member of the Mat series, SusMat focuses on materials for sustainable development. SCU’s Materials Science ranks among the top 1 ‰ in the world. It has outstanding academic influence in polymer recycling and environmental-friendly polymer materials. Wang Qi (Sichuan University) is the editor in chief, and there are eight associate editors from the United States, Canada, the UK, Germany and Australia. The editorial board is composed of 35 internationally renowned experts from different countries including China, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Spain, Singapore and Australia. On September 26, 2021, the journal was selected as one of the three materials journals of the "New Excellence Action Plan of China’s Science and Technology Journal in 2021". Moreover, it was included in the world famous Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) database on September 29, 2021. SusMat aims to become a top academic journal in materials science and make important contributions to sustainable development.
