Wu Yuzhang College's top-notch innovative talents training is based on the "one system, three modernizations, multi-intersection" and three-stage hybrid training mode. As one of the earliest honor programs in China, the "one system" refers to the "advisor system". Since 2000, the college has begun the practice to assign each undergraduate to an advisor for moral education and academic guidance. "Three Modernizations" refers to "individualization, small class and internationalization". The College implements a "one-person-one-case" individual study plan, fully respecting students' personality traits, interests and special talents.
Honor courses are all taught in small classes and seminars, advocating "inquiry, flipped class format, and multi modality". The College has cooperated with world-class universities such as Oxford St. Edmund’s School to achieve "full coverage" of students' international education. Multi-intersection refers to the practice whereby students from different disciplines live together, taking honor’s courses of different academic subjects. The three-stage mixed mode refers to the general education + honor course education for most students in the early stage ( the first one and a half years ), the professional direction + practice + interdisciplinary professional education in the middle stage (years 1.5-3), and the classified development education of academic research, innovation and entrepreneurship and practical application in the later stage (the fourth years).
Over the past five years, more than 100 students of Wu Yuzhang Honor’s College have won national awards such as Mathematical Contest In Modeling and Interdisciplinary Contest In Modeling, and the National College English Competition. Many academic papers have been included in SCI, EI and CSSCI. Graduates have got jobs at Harvard University, Fudan University, the World Bank, the United Nations, Apple, Google, Huawei and other well-known enterprises and institutions as well as government departments. Some have started their own businesses. For example, Xing Zhang, a class 2000 student, currently works in the World Bank; Jingde Liu of class 2012 has participated in the compilation of the United Nations Yearbook; Xu Hou, a class 2002 student, taught at Harvard University and is now a professor at Xiamen University.
