The 2nd SCU “Classics Guardian”-- Chinese Classics Reading Competition

On the evening of April 26th,  the finals of the second Sichuan University "Classics Guardian" -- Chinese Classics Reading Competition were held at the Mingyuan Forum of the east campus library, Wangjiang Campus. Rongjun Li, member of the standing committee of SCU Party Committee and vice president of the university, and the heads of relevant departments attended the event. In her speech, Rongjun Li said that the SCU Chinese Classics Reading Competition is an important activity of the 14th Reading Culture Festival of Sichuan University. It is the university’s cultural position to promote the reading culture of the whole people, and to create a strong reading atmosphere, assisting the construction of scholarly Sichuan University and Cultural Sichuan University.

The reading competition received 221 entries from 35 colleges and work units of the university, of which 20 teams stood out and entered the finals. The recitation of "Qin Yuan Chun- Snow" was full of grandeur, the Praise of the Sun was a yearning for a beautiful future of the motherland, and the Song of Sister Jiang vividly expressed the touching deeds of Zhujun Jiang, an alumnus of Sichuan University.

At the 14thSichuan University Reading Culture Festival, the organizer awarded excellent readers of the library in 2018 and excellent articles of the 10th "My University and My Library". At the same time, the organizer also presented Lixiu Liu, a staff member of the logistics group of Sichuan University, the nomination prize of "the most beautiful reader on campus" of Sichuan Province higher education institutions.

In order to encourage lifelong reading and the participation of the whole people, and promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture, the competition has invited reading enthusiasts of different age groups to participate in the performance. The Song of Mulan brought by Nianxin Li and Zichen Huang from the Experimental Primary School Affiliated to Sichuan University reproduced the legendary story of "A woman can compete alongside of men". Sun Qingmao, a representative of the retired teachers, recited the original poem Words in My Senile Age, revealing his life experience and demonstrating the demeanor of the retired teachers. Vietnamese students Qiuxiang Tao, Chunjiang Ruan and Ghanaian students Yao Sendai expressed their understanding and love of Chinese culture in the recitation. Their performances won the Best Performance Award.

Finally, the experts and the common judges gave out scores on the spot. "Song of Sister Jiang", "Grassland in Heaven", "China Youth Talk" three entries won the first prize, "Why China", "Wish" and other seven works won the second prize, "Moon Night by Spring", "I Am a Wayward Child" and other ten works won the third prize.

"Classics Guardian”-- Chinese Classics Reading Competitionis a platform for reading and exchanging Chinese classical culture. In the process of reciting the classics, teachers and students of Sichuan University can understand the ideological concepts, humanistic spirit and moral norms embedded in the excellent traditional Chinese culture. This platform allows the Chinese culture to exhibit its long lasting charm and style of the times, and enables the excellent traditional Chinese culture to carry on and develop.
