27 SCU Scholars Have Become the 2018 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers of Elsevier

Date:Jan 21, 2019

On January 17th, Elsevier, the academic publisher, announced its 2018 list of the Highly Cited Chinese Researchers. 1,899 individuals from 229 Chinese universities, scientific research institutes, or enterprises are named to this list. SCU 27 scholars from 13 fields of study are named to this list (below is the detailed information). The universities that have seen a big increase in the number of highly cited researchers are Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Sichuan University, with seven more researchers respectively compared with the number last year.

Employing the methods and criteria by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, Elsevier did an analysis of the Chinese researchers’ international influence and produced the list of 2018 Elsevier Highly Cited Chinese Researchers. Scopus, a database of Elsevier, has made it possible to make such a list with its data and technology. Scopus, as the world's largest literature abstract and citation database, contains more than 20,000 peer-reviewed journals, including more than 500 Chinese journals. In the Scopus database, there are more than 3 million documents with Chinese (mainland) institutions as the authors’ addresses, and more than 4 million documents have Chinese (mainland) authors.

As a highly cited researcher, this researcher must have published research papers in the capacity of the first author or the corresponding author. A highly cited researcher ranks high among (Chinese mainland) researchers in the number of times his/her paper has been cited. To be named to the list of the most cited researchers means that this scholar has world-class influence in his/her research field, and he/she has made great contribution to the development of this field.
