SCU: A Big Winner at the Third Global Chinese Classics Festival

On the afternoon of November 18th, the Third Global Chinese Classics Festival was held in Beijing. At the festival, the list of winners of Global Chinese Classics Prize was announced. Discussions of Confucian Literature,a volume of Compendium of Confucian Woks ( Rucangin Chinese),and Song Huiyao Jigao ( "Song Government Manuscript Compendium" ) of SCU’s Institute of Ancient Books, and History of the Chinese Taoist Thought ( 4 Volumes ) have won an Outstanding Achievement award respectively. Professor Xitai Qing is the editor-in-chief and Professor Shichuang Zhan is the deputy editor-in-chief of History of the Chinese Taoist Thought.

Professor Dagang Shu, director of Institute of Ancient Books, and Ji Li, on behalf of Professor Shichuang Zhan, receive the awards on the stage.

Professor Bo Yin, deputy director of Institute of Ancient Books receives the award for Song Government Manuscript Compendium ( Annotated Edition ).

Discussions of Confucian Literature ( three volumes in total ), is the ultimate achievement of the “Study of Confucian literature” ( 05JJD72009 ) which is a major social science research project of the Ministry of Education of China. This book received financial aid from the National Publishing Fund in 2010 and was named one of the “One Hundred Best Books” by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China and Guangming Daily. It also won a second prize of the 16th Sichuan Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award. History of the Chinese Taoist Thought ( 4 volumes ) has won a first prize of the Sichuan Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award, and a second prize of Chinese University Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award of the Ministry of Education. Song Government Manuscript Compendiumwon a first prize of Outstanding Chinese Ancient Books Prize in 2014, and the 14th Shanghai Book Prize Supreme Book Award and a first prize of the 17th Sichuan Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award.

SCU distinguished professor Mr. Shunqing Cao, chairman of China Comparative Literature Association, was invited to this festival and announced the winner of the Outstanding Works Award of the Global Chinese Classics Festival.

The Third Global Chinese Classics Festival is co-sponsored by Yuelu Academy, Ifeng.com, Dunhe Foundation, and Yidianzixun.com. Mr. Jialuo Xu, vice chairman of the Ninth and the tenth NPC standing committee, serves as the general advisor. Eight institutions, such as the Chinese Yan-Huang Culture Research Association, China Philosophy History Association, the Chinese Society of Exegesis Studies and China Comparative Literature Association, provide academic support.

It is understood that “The Third Global Chinese Classics Prize” does not need an individual to apply, and the academic circle nominates candidates, instead. Some 400 experts have participated in the nomination and selection. After a series of evaluation and selection, the festival has decided on prize winners in three categories, “Chinese Classics Achievements Award”, “Chinese Classics Dissemination Award” and “Chinese Classics Life Time Achievement Award”. Only 30 works have won the Outstanding Achievement Award.
