Clarivate Analytics released the latest ESI data for January 2019 on January 18, covering the period from January 1, 2008 to October 31, 2018. Compared with ESI data in November 2018, a total of 23 universities in mainland China have added one ESI top 1% discipline. SCU Environmental Science/Ecology has been listed in the top 1% disciplines of ESI for the first time. Thus, the total number of ESI top 1% disciplines in our university has reached 17, ranking the 7th among domestic universities. Meantime, the ESI international comprehensive ranking of our university is 295, which fully demonstrates our comprehensive strength.
Essential Science Indicators (ESI) is a basic analysis and evaluation tool to measure the performance of scientific research and track the development trend of science, which is based on the Institute of Science and Technology Information (ISI), an academic information publishing institution. ESI is an important indicator to measure the international academic level and influence of universities and research institutions. It is an econometric analysis database based on SCI and SSCI records of more than 10 million documents of more than 10,000 academic journals in the world. By sorting the journals into 22 disciplines, ESI ranks the total citations of articles published by various institutions in the world in the past ten years. Ranking in the top 1% of global universities and scientific research institutions in each discipline field, means that the discipline of the university and research institution has entered the ESI.
According to the statistical results of various universities, there are 25 mainland Chinese universities with 10 or more ESI top 1% disciplines in the current ESI data, among which Sichuan University, Wuhan University and Central South University have each added one ESI top 1% discipline.
Up to now, SCU ESI top 1% disciplines include: Chemistry, Clinical Medicine, Materials Science, Physics, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biology and Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Neuroscience and Behavior Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Agriculture Science, Botany and Zoology, Computer Science, Social Science, Psychiatry/Psychology, Immunology, Environmental Science/Ecology.
