Gan Lin pointed out that universities are the main force of basic research and the hotbed of major technological breakthroughs. To build Sichuan University into a world-class university with Chinese features, it is necessary to take disciplinary development as the leader, seize the opportunities of the new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, dare to think and act, and work smart and achieve success. In recent years, SCU has seen significant progress in the development of academic subjects. However, there are still problems such as unreasonable discipline structure and uneven levels in meeting the goal of building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.

The whole university should continue to make up for its shortcomings and augment strengths, focusing on building a first-class discipline system. We must maintain a global perspective and first-class standards, and watch closely world intellectual inventions, scientific discoveries, and technological innovation, speed up the setup of a world class discipline system, making due contributions to the building of a modern and powerful country.

Wang Jinsong noted that the successful convening of these meetings has consolidated consensus for the university to accelerate the development of first-class disciplines. He hopes that all colleges/schools will take talent cultivation seriously while promoting discipline development, reveal the deep-seated reasons for the gap through benchmarking analysis, fine tune the discipline direction, and strive to improve the discipline level. In promoting discipline development, we need to focus on six key issues. One. To gear towards the new major needs of the country, optimize talent cultivation and disciplinary direction layout. We need to carefully study the layout on the future new track in particular, and analyze the mutual support and correlation between disciplines. The second is to give priority to the development of basic disciplines, the refinement of common basic elements of disciplines, and the extraction of basic scientific problems from engineering research. The third is to benchmark against world-class standards, strengthen core elements, and support the development of advantageous disciplines with subject clusters. The fourth is to focus on national major strategies and future directions for scientific and technological innovation, and cultivate new growth points. The fifth is to promote interdisciplinary integration and innovative development, encourage in-depth exchanges and discussions between teachers and students. Sixth, we need to make new breakthroughs in morale, identify the breakthrough points of disciplinary construction elements with a strong sense of responsibility and mission, and seek breakthroughs through reform. I hope that all colleges and disciplines will continue to exert their efforts, work diligently, and comprehensively accelerate the development of a world-class university with Chinese features and advantageous disciplines.
