The World Biosafety and Frontier Medicine Summit Forum, led by our university, opened in Chengdu on July 2. Sang Guowei, vice chairman of the 11th National People's Congress, sent a congratulatory letter to the forum. Cheng Jinpei(Jin-pei Cheng), academician of CAS and former vice minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Luo Qiang, vice governor of Sichuan Province, Yu Hui, director of the Management Committee of Chengdu High-Tech Zone, and President Li Yanrong, academician of CAE, attended the forum and delivered a speech respectively. Those who attended the summit also include CAS and CAE academicians of Zhang Boli, Wei Yuquan, Chen Xiangmei, Chen Zhinan, Cheng Jing, Zhu Jiankang, Zhan Qimin, Li Song, Ji Weizhi, Liu Liang, Yang Zhenglin, and 150 other scholars. The opening ceremony of the forum was presided over by Li Weimin, president of West China Hospital and vice president of the Chinese Medical Association.
Through academic sharing, exchange and discussion, this forum aims to promote biosafety and frontier medicine innovation in China, and provide services to help decision-making concerning national life safety.
Prof. Wang Hongguang, director of the Chinese People's Life Safety Institute of West China Hospital and executive director of the China Strategy Research Center of Peking University, read a congratulatory letter from Sang Guowei.In his congratulatory letter, Sang Guowei extended congratulations on this forum. He pointed out that West China Hospital of Sichuan University has been at the forefront of national hospitals in medical research for many years. WCH has carried out international comparison of medicine, pharmacy and medical devices, and developed an intelligent hospital network, substantially contributing to national biosafety and people's health.
Yu Hui said in his speech that the Chengdu High-Tech Zone gives high priority to scientific and technological innovation and has cooperated with Sichuan University and others in building Tianfu Jincheng Laboratory. We hope to take this forum as an opportunity to attract more first-class talent in relevant fields to invest in the high-tech zone.
On behalf of SCU, Li Yanrong welcomed the academicians and guests in attendance. Biosafety and frontier medicine have become the focus of attention in recent years, especially so after the outbreak of the pandemic. West China Medicine of Sichuan University has been consistent in strengthening the research on biosafety and people's life and well-being. For instance, West China Hospital has built a national major scientific and technological infrastructure of translational medicine, a grand platform for the collective research on innovative drugs of the Ministry of Education. Furthermore, it has established the first national precision medicine industry and innovation center, among others, and launched the "Chinese People's Life Safety Institute", contributing to the development of biosafety and frontier medicine. I hope that academicians and experts will continue to help and support West China Medicine and make greater contributions to ensuring China's biosafety.
Luo Qiang said in his speech that Sichuan province has taken seriously the development of biosafety and frontier medicine, and assisted in the construction of national biosafety barriers in recent years. This summit will surely accelerate the high-quality development of biosafety and frontier medicine in Sichuan as well as in China.
Cheng Jinpei extended his congratulations on the 130th anniversary of the founding of West China Hospital of Sichuan University. Biosafety is related to people's lives and health and the long-term stability of the country. Focusing on biosafety and frontier medicine, this forum is not only of great significance to the development of WCH, but also offers high inspiration to the development of national medical research.
At the opening ceremony, 14 experts including Cheng Jinpei were employed as consultants of the Chinese People's Life Safety Institute of West China Hospital of Sichuan University.
During the forum, academicians, experts and scholars made keynote speeches regarding a number of cutting-edge issues in their professional fields.
