On September 6 and 7, the 2021 Global Green Development Summit Forum and the Sichuan-Hong Kong Cooperation and Advanced Functional Materials Forum, which were the two sub forums of the 2021 Western China Overseas Hi-tech and High Talent Conference, convened successfully in Chengdu. Sichuan University was one of hosts of the forums.
On September 6, the 2021 Global Green Development Summit Forum - "Energy Transformation and Innovation under the Vision of Carbon Neutrality" was held in the Century City International Conference Center of Chengdu. More than 300 government leaders, leading entrepreneurs and experts from across China, the United States and Europe attended the forum.
Liang Bin addressed the forum on behalf of SCU. He said that as a high-level research-oriented university in the west, SCU has the responsibility and obligation to promote low-carbon sustainable development. Sichuan University took the lead in establishing the Institute of New Energy and Low-Carbon Technology in 2003. He noted that this forum will further promote academic research in carbon neutralization and the development of relevant disciplines at SCU.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Schwarzenegger, founder of the R20 Regions of Climate Action, congratulated the opening of the forum by video. On behalf of the Sichuan provincial Party committee and government, Chen Wenhua welcomed the experts and congratulated the successful opening of the forum.
During the keynote speech session, Prof.Dan Kammen, a Nobel laureate; Xie Heping, an academician of CAE; Zhou Xiaoxin, an academician of CAS; Li Licheng, an academician of CAE; Prof. Liu Yuanli of Stanford University, and others gave speeches.
On the afternoon of Sept.7, the Sichuan-Hong Kong Cooperation and Advanced Functional Materials Forum was held in the Century City International Conference Center. About 100 experts, scholars and enterprise representatives from Sichuan and Hong Kong attended the forum.
Liang Bin pointed out in his speech that Materials Science is one of the traditionally strong disciplines of SCU and has achieved fruitful results. Sichuan University has always been committed to exchanges and cooperation with universities in Hong Kong in science and education. At present, there is strongpolicy support for the cooperation between Sichuan and Hong Kong, and the two regions enjoy rare historical development opportunities.
During the keynote speech session, Zhao Yuliang, an academician of CAS; Guo Zhengxiao, an academician of the European Academy of Sciences(EAS); Liu Ying, Dean of the College of Materials Science and Engineering, SCU; Xia Hesheng, deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials Engineering, SCU; Yao Wang, Professor of the University of Hong Kong; Sun Hongzhe, Professor of the University of Hong Kong; Zhang Hua, an academician of EAS; among others, delivered keynote speeches respectively.
Being the largest international science and technology and talent exchange event in Western China, the Western China Overseas Hi-tech and High Talent Conference has got widespread attention at home and abroad. This year is the eighteenth conference since it started in 1995. The forums have invited Nobel laureates, Chinese and foreign academicians, experts and scholars in the field of energy industry and materials in various countries, as well as relevant professionals from famous universities to participate. At the forums, experts and scholars exchanged views on the hot and difficult issues of widespread concern in the field of advanced materials science and technology.
