The Report on Overseas Library Collections of Books from China (2019) was published on August 19th. 89 Chinese books published by Sichuan University Press ( SUP ) in 2018 have become part of the permanent collections of overseas libraries in 2019. Ranking the 59th place, Sichuan University Press has made it to the top 100 press houses of mainland China. It ranks 13th among all Chinese university presses and 2nd in Sichuan Province. Specifically speaking, 29 publications by Sichuan University Press have won the prize of the eighteenth Social Science Excellent Accomplishment of Sichuan Province. The number of prize winners makes up 10.07% of all 288 prize winning books. The SUP achievement in publishing academic readers has found full expression in the fact that it ranks No. 1 among all 16 presses in Sichuan Province.
To serve as a good platform and assist SCU in its construction of the “double first-class” status
As a comprehensive publishing house affiliated to a national "double first-class" university and the first batch of key cultural enterprises in Sichuan Province, SUP has played an active role in serving the needs of educational and teaching reform and innovation in both graduate school and undergraduate school of Sichuan University. Centering on the training of talents, SUP has worked hard at publishing textbooks. Of all the published university textbooks by SUP, the textbooks compiled and written by Sichuan University teachers make up approximately 40%.

SUP works vigorously to assist scientific research and discipline construction of Sichuan University, establishing a platform to publish high-level scientific and technological achievements. Of all the monographs published by SUP, 30% are works by SCU teachers and graduate students. In the meantime, Sichuan University Press joined hands with various colleges and schools to carry out extensive exchanges including "salon on academic writing and publishing" to guide young teachers and graduate students to write academic works.
SUP also helps colleges and schools publish academic periodicals and collections. As the host, SUP has provided firm support to SCUOrthopedicsandWest China Medical Journal, published more than 20 academic journals sponsored by various colleges. Among them, the three journals ofCultural Studies and Literary Theories, Signs and Media and Collection of Chinese History Studies have been included in CSSCI database.
Sichuan University Press has formulated and implemented the funding method for the publishing project of high-quality academic books, providing financial support to eight types of books representing the frontiers of academic research, especially the latest research results of SCU double first-class disciplines, or reflecting the interdisciplinary high-quality academic works. At the same time, Sichuan University Press remains steadfast in building with relevant departments and colleges a social practice base for university students.
Upholding its name brand: to improve publishing quality and enhance the reputation of the university and the press
SUP has made 2019 “the year of quality control”. It focuses on the quality of publications and further reinforces the system to evaluate and assess themes, raising the standard for thematic topics. SUP strengthens its three-review system and streamlines rejection mechanism. It also boosts its pre-press quality inspection system, carries out the whole book inspection of key books. In addition, SUP strictly controls the "topic selection", "editing and proofreading", "quality inspection", "promotion customs", and strives to improve the quality of publications and create a brand name of Sichuan University Press.
Sichuan University Press stands by the characteristics of academic and educational publishing. It works vigorously to publish classics recording ancient books such as Collection of Confucian Works andCompendium of Ancient Books of Ba-Shu ( Ba Shu Quanshu ), phenomenal academic books includingChinese Semiotics Series,and general family education of children such as Insight into Adolescents Psychology Series.The press has also published university textbooks ranging from philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, sciences, engineering, agriculture, medicine to management.

What is more, SUP endeavors to introduce their books abroad. Having signed intent agreements with publishers in France, Germany, Russia and South Korea, SUP plans to introduce over 20 books including Chinese Semiotics Series, How to Appreciate Sichuan Opera and The Untold Stories of Tibetan Tea to the above mentioned countries. Philosophical Semiotics: the Coming into Being of the World of Meaning ( French Edition ) has become the “2018 Project of International Publication of Classical Chinese Books”, which points to a major progress of SUP in its work to introduce Chinese culture to the outside world. In 2018, Sichuan University Press received five national key publishing projects, including one from the National Publishing Fund, with a total of 9 established projects; three from the National Social Science Fund, with a total of 8 established projects; and one from the 13th Five-Year Plan for Key Publishing.
In 2019, Sichuan University Press made joint efforts in four aspects: structural adjustment, project-driven, paper-book upgrade and copyright service. According to the plan, Sichuan University Press has promoted the implementation of integration development projects such as "University Science and Education Cultural Resources Service Platform Construction" and "Chengdu AI Music Creative Publishing Industry Park". Moreover, SUP continues to promote the construction of digital branch publishing house, achieving a great increase in the revenue of digital publishing and fusion publishing. Besides, the two projects of "Research and Application of Polymer Materials Series" and "Light of the Rule of Law: A Talk on the Construction of the Rule of Law in New China" have received special funding of Sichuan Province key publications.
Do a good Job regarding culture: to enable Sichuan University culture to spread at home and abroad.
Sichuan University Press focuses on disseminating traditional Chinese culture, and relentlessly introduces it into communities and universities, expanding the influence of traditional Chinese culture at the grass-roots level. By means of farmers reading rooms, community reading rooms and school libraries of primary and secondary schools, SUP does her part to spread excellent Chinese traditions. The press also plays an active role in poverty alleviation, and fulfills its social responsibilities through book donations and other activities. What is more, SUP vigorously works on “saints works” of SCU College of Literature and Journalism in order to preserve the culture heritage of Sichuan University. Folktales of Sichuan University and other books on SCU history advocate the spirit of Sichuan University, and inherit the culture of Sichuan University, allowing the culture of Sichuan University to radiate outward and expand its influence.

Drawing upon its century-old history, rich cultural accumulation and discipline advantages, Sichuan University Press has published or planned a series of ancient books, semiotics, doctor dissertations, Tianfu culture series, Sichuan library of Academic Works. The books have exerted great influence on both Chinese and international academic circles, winning commendations from academia as well as the rank and file readers.
