Date:Jun 9, 2023

On June 2, the Sixth National University Psychodrama Competition and Psychodrama Forum was held in Changchun, Jilin Province, hosted by the Psychological Crisis Intervention Committee of the Chinese Psychological Association and the National Center for Mental Health and Mental Health Prevention and Treatment, and organized by Jilin International Studies University. The play "Rooftop Trial" produced by the Collegeof Arts of our university won the first place in the 2023 Campus Psychological Drama Competition and represented our university in the national final. In the national competition, it won the second prize as being highly recognized by the judges and the audience for its wonderful performance.

The work "Rooftop Trial" was an original psychodrama created by the College of Arts and directed by the Mental Health Education Center of Sichuan University. The story starts with five characters named obesity, gauntness, crossness, astuteness and laziness who are labeled with crimes and come to the roof for trial. On the roof, they accuse each other harshly. However, the trial does not aim to give them death penalty. On the contrary, the judges persuade them patiently and brings the memory of glorious old days back to them. It turns out that life should not be bound by labels, and a rooftop trial is actually a spiritual salvation. When the bell rings for a new day,the five people tear off the label bravely and try to perceive the beauty around them with their hearts and eventually meet poetic and romantic lives. This work was directed by Associate Professor Yang Yijing and Associate Professor Li Qiang from the Department of Film, Television and Theatre of the College of Arts, written by Zhou Junru from the Department of Radio and Television Choreography, played by Yu Zhuoli, Xu Miao, Wu Anqi, Zhou Junru, Fu Weiqi and Peng Yuan from the major of Radio and Television Choreography, managed by Zuo Yiling from the major of Radio and Television Choreography and Yu Tong from the major of Visual Communication Design. At the same time, teachers from the College of Arts, the Mental Health Education Center and the Department of Academic Work set up a joint mentoring group and offer professional guidance to this play from different perspectives.

Psychodrama is one of the earliest forms of group psychotherapy, which was pioneered by Viennese psychiatrist Moreno in 1920.The psychodrama in universities focuses on the mental health statement of contemporary university students and presents their psychological statement in a three-dimensional and realistic way.It can cultivate a self-respecting, confident, rational, calm and positive social mindset among college studentsas its an effective group mental healing method. Students make up "small plays" about their psychological conflicts, worries and confusions in life, study and interaction, and integrate the "major principals" into the stage performance.

Participating in the National College Psychological Drama Competition can show our wonderful play to the others and display our successful mental health education. More importantly, it is able to improve students' psychological quality and innovative ability. By getting involved in this national exhibition, students broadened their horizons, enhanced exchanges with others, improved their confidence and stimulated their potential. This event provides a new train of thought for the creation of play and also mental health education work. It plays a positive role in building a harmonious campus and promoting students' all-round development.
