One Gold and One Silver for SCU Volunteers at the Fourth China Youth Volunteer Services Competition

Date:Dec 10, 2018

The Fourth China Youth Volunteer Services Competition and Volunteer Work Exchange ( Hereinafter referred to as “VWE” ) was held from Nov. 30th to Dec. 2nd in Deyang, Sichuan Province. With the theme of “Young volunteers serve the new era”, this VWE conducts a comprehensive rigorous evaluation of volunteer programs in terms of their aim, service content, management, operational security, social influence and internet capacity and so on. 590 outstanding volunteer programs have competed through open review and roadshow defense. SCU’s “Colorful Stone” and “Interpretation Flower” have won the gold and silver award.

“Colorful Stone” was founded during the reconstruction of the “5.12 Grand Earthquake" of Wenchuan in 2008. It has established a partnership with 610 pupils and students from nine middle schools in the hard-hit areas, offering them on-going efficient psychological assistance by means of compositions and letters. Later on, the volunteers have extended their services to left-behind children, children of migrant workers, and children in ethnic minority areas and orphanages. Up to now, over 11,000 “Colorful Stone” volunteers have donated more than 50,000 hours, setting up a stable line of assistance for those children by post. They have won the Ministry of Civil Affairs “National Excellent Volunteer Service Project” First Prize, 2016 National Volunteer Service “Four 100” advanced publicity and selection activities, the Best Voluntary Service Organizations of Sichuan Province, among other honors.

“Interpretation Flower” is an interpreter service to assist Tibetan patients during their treatments at West China (Huaxi) Hospital/Huaxi Clinical Medicine. Since they live in Tibetan areas, many Tibetans know little about the treatment procedure and the medical environment in other regions and have a difficult time when seeking medical treatment. The interpretation flower volunteers will escort during their doctor’s visit, helping them with registration and treatment in the hospital. Over the past two years, their services have been widely acclaimed for their important role in promoting inclusive health care, sharing of quality medical resources, national unity and so on.

In the future, SCU’s volunteers of “Colorful Stone”, “Interpretation Flower” and many others will continue with their voluntary service, upholding “dedication, love, mutual assistance, progress”. They will continue with their social responsibilities and duties.
