On June 15th, College of Architecture and Environment and National Engineering Research Center for Flue Gas Desulfurization organized Ho Leung Ho Lee (HLHL) Foundation Summit on Belt and Road Initiative at Sichuan University With the theme of “Green Development Through Innovation”, this summit was to publicize HLHL Foundation’s achievement in green development in hopes to promote a better ecological system and accelerate the construction of a model sustainable development zone in Chengdu.Among those at the forum were General Secretary Ruichun Duan of HLHL Foundation, Mr. Ning Duan, an academician of Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Mr. Wenqing Liu, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Kebin He, an academician from Tsinghua University among others.President Yanrong Li of Sichuan University addressed the opening ceremony.
General Secretary Ruichun Duan of HLHL Foundation speaks about HLHL Foundation’s founding, development and its principles and evaluation system to provide awards. He points out that HLHL Foundation has become the most influential, the most authoritative and the most credible awards of science and technology over the past 24 years. Discussions and keynote speeches are given with regard to green development theories and technologies, air and water pollution prevention, disposal of solid waste and its utilization in an attempt to explore innovation through production, learning and research.
In his address, President Li of SCU indicates that HLHL Foundation is getting more and more influential; and its awards are becoming more prestigious, serving as a great stimulus to rank and file scientific researchers and young scholars in particular. Having a large scale system, Sichuan University has a well-rounded set of disciplines and academic subjects as well as talents of all kinds. With its advantage of multi-disciplines, SCU has established a Sino-Germany green energy innovation workstation, and new energy and low-carb technology research institute. In addition, SCU is cooperating with UC Berkley, Cambridge University and so on to set up research centers of green energy, low-carb technology, ecological environment, and green and sustainable development. He further points out that this summit, focusing on “Green Development Through Innovation”, will surely boost the development of light industry and textile, environmental science at Sichuan University, promoting scientific and technological innovation and progress in the field of green development in China. Various academicians have made wonderful reports regarding challenging and hot issues such as “black smelly water treatment”, “China ocean resources exploration”, “high value efficient recycling of waste polymer materials”, “ozone pollution prevention”, “polar environmental observation”, control of pollution emission”, “clean leather processing”, “blue sky defense”, Chinese city construction”, “waste water processing”, “flue gas desulfurization”, etc. They have put forward many scholarly ideas and suggestions which are forward-looking and constructive.
HLHL Foundation was founded by patriotic Hong Kong financiers Shanheng Ho, Leung Kau Kui, TianHe, and Guowei Lee in 1994. Being the biggest non-governmental award foundation of science and technology, the foundation gives awards to science and technology workers who have made outstanding contribution to China’s science and technology. There are three awards “Science and Technology Achievement”, “Science and Technology Progress” and “Science and Technology Innovation”. The awards are given annually. As of this article, nine SCU science and technology researchers have won HLHL Foundation awards. Pictures of the award winners along with their achievements are on display at the summit.
