Recently, the 2018 Annual Convention of the Chinese Association for History of Journalism and Communication opened in Hangzhou. Nearly 1,000 scholars from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Sichuan University and others gathered here to share their latest research achievements.

At the annual award ceremony/closing ceremony, SCU’s Professor Peihuang Qiu has won the “Lifetime Achievement Award” of Journalism and Communication Association Prize. Professor Qiu is a doctoral students advisor of College of Literature and News and former dean of College of Journalism. The association speaks highly of Professor Peihuang Qiu for his outstanding contribution to China’s journalism and journalism education. Being a pioneer and one of the founders of journalism and communication in west China, Professor Qiu has been committed to the practice, teaching and research of journalism and is acclaimed as the “perpetual motive of Journalism education”.

During his career as a journalist, Professor Qiu has visited Mao Dun in Beijing, paid respects to Ba Jin eight times in Shanghai and Qin Mu in Guangzhou, turning out plentiful works. Together with his colleagues, he first proposed and practiced the new educational model of “Invite over and go out”. And he has figured out a new way to cultivate journalism talents through “integration of learning and practice”, bringing up a large number of outstanding talents for China’s journalism. At the age of 79, he is still active in news and journalism education and continues to write news reports. Professor Qiu’s deep learning and his spirit of continuous endeavor for the prosperity and development of China’s journalism and communication education is a valuable asset of China’s journalism and communication industry.
