Springer Nature Invites Professor Jiagang Wu to Publish the First English Monograph on Lead-Free Piezoelectric Materials: Advances in Lead-Free Piezoelectric Materials

Date:Dec 21, 2018

At the invitation of the world-renowned publishing company Springer Nature, SCU Professor Jiagang Wu, College of Material Science and Engineering, has written an English monograph entitled Advances in Lead-Free Piezoelectric Materials ( ISBN 978-981-10-8997-8 ). Professor Jiagang Wu is the sole author and Sichuan University is the only work unit for this monograph. The book consists of nine chapters, totaling 522 pages. It is the first English monograph on the structure, performance and devices of lead-free piezoelectric materials in the world.

Piezoelectric materials are widely used in aviation, communication and medicine, etc because they enable the transformation between electrical and mechanical energy. However, the lead content in lead zirconate titanate is as high as 60 wt%, which will cause harm to human health and environment in the process of production, use and recovery. The EU environmental concerns of lead toxicity and new Restriction of Hazardous Substances ( RoHS ) legislations mean that poisonous lead-based ceramics will gradually be replaced by lead-free piezoelectric ceramics after 2020. Therefore, the development of lead-free alternatives is extremely important and urgent.

Being a world famous publishing company, Springer Nature is committed to providing the best service to the global scientific research community. The research work in the monograph has received financial support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
