The “Rong Huo” torch relay of the 31st Summer Universiade was held at Sichuan University on July 2, officially launching the torch relay in Chengdu!

The torch relay kicked off at the Mingde Square of Sichuan University at 9am.

The eight flame guards acted as flag guards, escorting the national flag of the People’s Republic of China and the flag of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) into the ceremony. Then, the national anthem of PRC and the anthem of the FISU were played.

Three flame guards escorted the flame into the square, and Gan Lin, secretary of the Party Committee of Sichuan University, lit the flame cauldron. Shi Xiaolin, a member of the Standing Committee of the provincial Party Committee, secretary of the municipal Party Committee of Chengdu and vice chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Chengdu Universiade, went to the cauldron to light the torch of the Chengdu Universiade. She held it high, saluted the audience and handed it to the first torchbearer Wu Minxia, an Olympic diving champion. At about 9:30, Shi Xiaolin announced that the torch relay of the Chengdu 31st Summer Universiade began.

Zheng Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the provincial Party Committee, director of the Publicity Department, and vice chairman of the Chengdu Universiade Organizing Committee, presented commemorative badges to representatives of the torchbearers. Vice Chairman Zheng Bei of the Chengdu Universiade Organizing Committee presided over the ceremonial start. Wang Fengchao, the mayor and executive chairman of the Chengdu Universiade addressed the ceremony. Wu Jing, the torchbearer representative also spoke at the ceremony.

President Wang Jinsong; Liu Lixin, vice chairman of theFederation of University Sports of China (FUSC),and Chairman of theAsian University Sports Federation (AUSF); Chen Yanfu,deputy secretary of the municipal Party Committee of Chengdu, relevant leaders of provincial departments and Chengdu City, representatives of university teachers, students, and volunteers attended the ceremonial start.
